Youth Outreach
Sierra Summit is looking for new skiers and snowboarders and we’re bringing the hill to you! The Youth Outreach Dry Land Ski School (YO for short) was created to expose children and their families that have never been skiing or snowboarding to winter snowsports. Sierra Summit is bringing its dry land program to designated sites in the Central Valley and Central Coast areas during the pre-season. Newcomers have the opportunity to try something new groupwhile building self esteem and learning the fundamentals of skiing and/or snowboarding. This is a fun event that brings all family members together for free! Here’s how the three-part YO program works.
PART ONE – The venue is selected a day for the event and begins advertising accordingly with flyers, newspaper ads, etc. On the day of the event, Sierra Summit will arrive to set up the dry land ski school in a park-like setting, school or any location with a grassy, sloped area. This program is able to accommodate 100 to 300 participants at most venues and will bring all the necessary skis and snowboards with a variety of sizes to meet the needs of most everyone. We will also bring some fun promotional items for the participants.
Participants must sign a release form and fill out an information card. A parent or legal guardian MUST sign a release form for all minors. Participants choose which sport they would like to try and then go to the equipment area where our rental technicians will set them up with the proper gear. After being fitted, the participants will move on to the instruction area to learn the fundamentals including technique, balance and safety from one of our instructors. Next, participants will get to ski or snowboard down our artificial hill as many times as they like practicing the skills they have just learned in the lesson.
PART TWO – Upon completion of the dry land course, all participants will receive a certificate of completion with an invitation to participate in a FREE Introduction to Ski or Snowboard Package at the resort. This package includes a FREE lesson, FREE rental and a FREE beginner area lift ticket available on select dates. Bus rides from our Fresno Sport Shop to the resort will be made available for those that do not have transportation on select dates. Reservations for the bus are required and are booked through our Fresno Sport Shop.
PART THREE – Upon completion of the Introduction Package at the resort, each participant will receive a coupon for a return trip to the mountain. This coupon includes equipment rental, a group lesson and an all mountain lift ticket for only $20, a significant savings from our regular package price.
The YO Program is a terrific opportunity to expose first timers to the exciting sports of skiing and snowboarding as well as a terrific way to stay active during the winter months.
